13 Reasons Why, eighteen days out. Netflix has confirmed that Season 2 of the controversial suicide drama will debut in mid-May, and has already released a cryptic teaser of Hannah Baker’s next mystery.

Netflix debuted a first teaser for 13 Reasons Why Season 2 on Monday, simultaneously confirming that new episodes will premiere as early as May 18. The teaser seems to indicate Polaroids will replace cassette tapes as the quaint medium providing Season 2’s next mystery, with Hannah in particular promising “the tapes were just the beginning.” Here’s an official synopsis:

Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of Hannah’s death and the start of our characters’ complicated journeys toward healing and recovery. Liberty High prepares to go on trial, but someone will stop at nothing to keep the truth surrounding Hannah’s death concealed. A series of ominous polaroids lead Clay and his classmates to uncover a sickening secret and a conspiracy to cover it up.

Elsewhere of Season 2, Netflix confirmed results of a Northwestern study inspired them to create a new cast intro that opens either season. The second run will also feature a new after-show different from Season 1’s Beyond the Reasons; set to include “many actors, experts and educators who helped inform our approach.” The streaming service also released a new video spotlighting viewers affected by the series, and aims to do more before the Season 2 premiere.

Worth noting, Season 2 will move beyond the novel created by Jay Asher (who himself was cut from the franchise over unrelated harassment allegations). Stay tuned for a more official trailer in the meantime.
