Between the cold of the Iowa winter and the pandemic, I haven't been leaving my house much lately. That means I've been spending a ton of time curled up on my couch watching TV. Too much time, arguably. But, with so much great content out there right now, it's hard not to get sucked in!

Since the start of the year, I've enjoyed lots of new shows, movies, and documentaries on various streaming platforms including Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, and Disney+. Here are a few of the things I've really liked:

  • Bridgerton (Netflix)
    • Bridgerton is a new Netflix show based on a book series. It's a period piece filled with drama and romance. The first season focuses mainly on Daphne Bridgerton and her budding relationship with the Duke of Hastings. I'm not a huge fan of the romance genre, but despite how cheesy and over-the-top it is, it somehow sucked me in. If you plan to watch it, be prepared for quite a few VERY rated-r love scenes!
  • The Sinner (Netflix)
    • The Sinner is a show that originally aired on USA. IMDB describes it as "anthology series that examines how and why ordinary people commit brutal crimes." There are currently three seasons and each one follows an entirely different case that's being worked on by Detective Harry Ambrose. Each season is mysterious and disturbing, but you just can't stop watching!
  • Framing Britney Spears (Hulu)
    • Framing Britney Spears is a New York Times special that takes a look at the ups and downs of Britney Spears' life and career, and puts a special focus on her ongoing conservatorship battle with her father. It's incredibly eye-opening and really makes you think about the way the media has portrayed Britney all these years.
  • WandaVision (Disney+)
    • WandaVision is the first Marvel TV series released on Disney+. It stars Wanda Maximoff and Vision and takes place after the final Avengers movie. The show takes place in a sitcom style, but you realize pretty quickly that things are not as perfect as they appear. Five episodes have been released so far, with new ones coming out on Fridays.
  • The Queen's Gambit (Netflix)
    • The Queen's Gambit is a seven-episode mini-series about an orphan named Beth Harmon who discovers at a young age that she is an incredible chess player. Even if you know nothing about chess, you'll be completely mesmerized by Beth and her journey as she toes the line between genius and madness.
  • Class Action Park (HBO Max)
    • Class Action Park is a 90-minute documentary about the legendary New Jersey waterpark Action Park that was wildly popular throughout the 1980s. You won't believe how ridiculously dangerous this place was!
  • What We Do in the Shadows (Hulu)
    • What We Do in the Shadows is a comedy series that originally aired on FX and currently has three seasons (with more planned for the future). It's about some very old vampires that live together in a house in Staten Island. What's not to love?
