One of my favorite local restaurants is finally ready to show off their new location! Thanks to a new Facebook post, we now know that Runt's Munchies will reopen for business TODAY (August 30th)!

Runt's Munchies first opened at 529 5th Ave SE in Downtown Cedar Rapids five years ago, but decided to relocate earlier this year. The ongoing construction surrounding the restaurant was having a negative impact on their business, so they had no choice but to find a solution. On May 25th, Runt's Munchies announced that it would be their final day at the 5th Ave location.

The new Runt's Munchies is set to open today at 11 a.m. at 118 2nd St SE, the former location of The Blue Strawberry. Hours will be Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., but eventually they hope to open for breakfast, too!

If you've never had Runt's Munchies before, I can give you a few recommendations. I've eaten there MANY times over the past five years! Some of my favorite menu items are the Loaded Mashed Potato Bombs, F-Bomb Egg Rolls, parmesan-garlic wings, pickle wrap dip, chicken wrap, and waffle fries. Oh, and don't forget to get some dessert from the 'Case of Yum!' Owner Jess Johnson always has a unique selection of homemade baked goods that you do NOT want to skip out on. The Butterbeer Cupcakes and Brownie Puppy Chow are a couple of must-trys, but you can't really go wrong with anything that you order.

Runt's Munchies isn't the only new place to open for lunch in Downtown Cedar Rapids! Tower Cafe opened earlier this month on the ground level of the Alliant Energy building. You can read more about that HERE.
