There is another crisis developing in America, it is a food shortage with a growing number of people who need help now.

The coronavirus continues to prevent many people from working, which in some cases makes them unable to collect a much needed paycheck. But, there are real heroes helping to offset these problems with a spirited helping hand.

Runt's Munchies at 529 5th Ave. SE in downtown Cedar Rapids is handing out free meals on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting around 5:00 p.m. at dinnertime. Recent free meals have included a goulash, and cheesy ham and potatoes casserole. They also offering pick up and delivery for their loyal customers with an impressive menu, including some awesome desserts.

Another great helping hand is being given by the Linn Community Food Bank with volunteers who are offering up a 3-day supply of groceries to those in need.

The free Linn Community Food Bank is located at 310 5th St. SE, just across from Green Square Park and the downtown Cedar Rapids Public Library. It is open every Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

These two groups are just more examples of how Iowans pull together in times of crisis. Other area businesses are still open and serving people too. Check out that list here.
