Amana Colonies Restaurant Releases Cookbook With Their Famous Recipes
Ox Yoke Inn in the Amana Colonies has been serving up amazing food for more than 80 years, and now they're sharing some of their recipes with us! The restaurant is currently selling "Our Recipes Our Story," a cookbook full of their classic dishes.
According to a recent Facebook post, "Our Recipes Our Story" is a 90-page book featuring 67 original recipes, including some of Ox Yoke Inn's famous pies! The book also details the history of the restaurant, which was opened in 1940 by William and Lina Leichsenring. The official website says that "five generations of the Leichsenring family have worked at the Ox Yoke Inn." It's only fitting that Bill Leichsenring is one of the authors of the new cookbook, along with Emilie Hoppe.
"Our Recipes Our Story" is now available for purchase for $24.99. It's available in Ox Yoke Inn's gift shop, but it can also be ordered online for $30.99. You can place your order HERE.
Ox Yoke Inn is best known for its “family style” meals, featuring "traditional German and American favorites." The main building was built in 1856, with additions constructed in 1870, 1963, and 1976. The website says that when they first opened their doors in 1940, they offered "steak, Amana ham, Amana pork sausage, and chicken dinners for 65 cents." The building has National Historic Landmark status.
Ox Yoke Inn is currently open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m.to 7 p.m., Friday & Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Brunch is served Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. From January through March, the restaurant is closed Mondays and is only open Sundays for the brunch buffet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
