Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj Drop Blinding ‘The Light Is Coming’
The light is coming, and finally, the light is here — Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj dropped their latest collaboration Wednesday (June 20), the latest insight into Grande's forthcoming fourth studio album Sweetener.
"The Light Is Coming," which follows Grande's single "No Tears Left To Cry," kicks off with a tongue-in-cheek verse from Minaj, who doubles down on the idea that she's been vilified by the industry. "Ay yo, trophy wife, out you won me / Until you had to find out it's one me / Now you benched, aww, your bum knee / Now I'm the bad guy, call me Chun-Li (ooh)," she spits over video-game production and tinker toy effects.
Grande quickly joins, and rejects the notion that critics can judge or understand her relationship (a last-minute allusion to her new beau Pete Davidson, perhaps?). "I've been into you, shit that you've been through / They are so confused, who cares about the rational? / If it ain't your view / That's the bottom line / Know-it-all (know-it-all,)" she challenges.
Republic Records has also announced that Sweetener will drop on August 17, and added the video for "The Light Is Coming" will premiere soon on Reebok.com (Grande was announced in January as a partner for the company's Spring/Summer 2018 campaigns).
Fans who preorder Sweetener now at Grande's website will get presale access to her upcoming headlining tour, the company added.
