Beat the Bitter Returns to North Liberty This Weekend

Some fun winter festivities will take place in the Corridor beginning this Saturday!

According to a new article from CBS 2, the city of North Liberty will be hosting its 6th annual Beat the Bitter event this weekend at Penn Meadows Park. This year's event will look a little different thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, but there are still plenty of activities that you and your family can enjoy safely! Here's a look at the lineup:

• Ice Sculpture Walk
  • January 30th and 31st (carvers will be working the morning of January 30th)
  • Located on the trail between the play structure and the tennis courts
• Winter Storywalk
  • January 30th and 31st
  • Featuring The Snow Dancer and The Snowy Day (1962)
  • Located on the west side of Penn Meadows Park
• Igloo Jam COVID Relief Concert (Virtual Event)
  • January 30th at 8 p.m.
  • Featuring The Pork Tornadoes
  • Benefiting the United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties Community Disaster Relief Fund

• 5K-ish Obstacle? Run
  • January 30th through February 6th
  • "Complete a 5K-ish Obstacle? Run loop from We Run out to Centennial Park and back any time between Jan. 30 to Feb. 6. Afterwards, stop in to We Run to receive a commemorative 2021 medal and 15% off an entire We Run sale!"

• Fireworks
  • January 31st at 7 p.m.
  • 15-minute display
  • Attendees outside their vehicles should wear a face mask and maintain six-feet of social distance
• Idita Pod Race
  • February 6th at 3 p.m.
  • Collect clues and instructions at the North Liberty Community Center
  • "From there, you’ll visit secret locations and upload photos to prove you made it. The team with the most points at 4:30 p.m. — and not a moment later — will be crowned the winner."
  • The winning team will be announced Friday, February 12th
  • Your team should be members of your "pod" - use masks and social distancing at the locations
• Virtual Snuggie Crawl
  • February 6th from 7 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.
  • Event will be held on Gather Town, "a virtual space where your avatar can move about to our virtual bar stops, chat with avatars located nearby, and play games with other attendees. "
