A member of the Black Hawk County Jail staff has tested positive for COVID-19, sheriff's officials confirmed Wednesday morning.

According to a press release, a nurse who works with jail inmates recently received a positive test for the coronavirus. Sheriff's officials said the nurse is employed by Naphcare, Inc., the correctional healthcare company contracted to provide 24-hour medical and mental health coverage for the jail.

The nurse has been quarantined, pursuit to company and sheriff's department policy, the press release said.

According to sheriff's officials, the infected employee normally works the nightshift. Therefore, a minimal number of inmates and staff were in contact with the nurse.

In response to the positive test, sheriff's officials have implemented increased protocols and surveillance monitoring of staff and inmates with the Black Hawk County Jail.
