Camanche Schools Narrow Mascot Options Down To 7
The Camanche School district has announced that they have narrowed down their new mascot options to seven possible choices. The mascot change will come following the 2020-2021 school year.
Back in March, the Camanche School Board voted to officially rid of the Indian mascot from the school district. The removal of the Indian mascot comes after several years of recommendations from school agencies and Native American groups to address and remove the mascot. The school board voted 5-to-1, with one person not present to vote, to remove Indian as the mascot and nickname for the school at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
After a month of suggestions from community members, the Camanche School district announced that they have narrowed the options down to seven. Those seven options include:
- Chargers
- Cobras
- Coyotes
- Eagles
- Mustangs
- Storm
- Wolves/Wolfpack
Officials say that in the coming weeks, they we will be providing community members “fun facts” about the seven options, as well as a first look at sketches of what the mascots/logos could look like.
In the social media post, officials say they believe providing sketches and having a visual of the mascot/logo will help when providing feedback.
The Camanche School district will also develop another Google Form in the coming weeks to allow those to share their input on their favorite choices. Community members will be able to select up to three choices and explain why they selected those choice(s). That Google Form will be available on the Camanche Activity Department's Facebook page, other Camanche social media pages, the Camanche Community Schools website. Hard copies will be located at each school and the administration building.
