Cedar Rapids Building Destroyed by Fire [VIDEO]

The building that once housed Jan's Salon and Beauty Supply in Cedar Rapids is a total loss after a fire this morning in Cedar Rapids. Property records indicated the building was still home to the business, but Cedar Rapids Police say the building was vacant.

According to a media release from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, the department was dispatched to the building at 1834 Blairs Ferry Road NE at 6:53 Wednesday morning. When Engine 9 arrived on the scene, there was heavy smoke coming from the front of the building. Other fire crews arrived and Blairs Ferry Road was shut down so firefighters could put water supply lines across the roadway. Hiawatha Fire assisted on the scene and also provided a tanker, allowing Blairs Ferry Road to be reopened. A ladder truck was also used to remove materials that were burning from the top floor of the two-story building.

No injuries were reported in the fire and the investigation into what caused it continues.
