Aside from a few weeks in November and December, we've had a pretty mild winter, light on the snow. Knowing we can expect more Winter-like conditions soon, we can't wait for summer!

Much like the announcement of the reporting date of pitchers and catchers for baseball fans, the schedule of the Downtown Farmers' Markets in Cedar Rapids is greeted by its patrons with warm anticipation every winter and that announcement has now arrived.

The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance lists the following scheduled Saturdays as market dates:

  • May 23
  • June 6 & 20
  • July 4 & 18
  • August 1 & 15
  • September 19

It's exciting that July 4th falls on a Saturday this year and that we'll be able to start our celebration early at the Farmers' Market this year. Markets run on the listed Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

For those who like to party it up in the evening in a more adult-friendly environment, Market After Dark is back from 6:30-11 p.m. on Saturday, August 22.

I was disappointed not to have made any of the markets last summer for the first time in a while. I always enjoy them and so do a slew of patrons who descend upon them each year.

If you'd like to apply to be a vendor, applications are open now for both the Downtown Farmers Market and the Market After Dark. Head to this website to get started. The "Become a Vendor" page gives you everything you need to know to host a booth or stand at the market.

Vendors interested in a full season at the Downtown Farmers Market should apply by February 15. Vendors interested in Market After Dark should apply by April 29.
