Julie and I had just ended a grocery-shopping trip to the Edgewood Road Hy-Vee when we saw the black smoke rolling south from the west and just south of Blairs Ferry Road. Sirens, tons of them, soon followed.

According to a release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, homeowner Aaron Wyatt was working on a vehicle in the detached garage of his home where the fire started. Both the garage and vehicle were a total loss, but the fire was contained to the garage. Wyatt was transported by Hiawatha Ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital, with minor injuries. He was the only one injured.

The release stated nine different agencies were involved in the response to the fire. They were Linn County Sheriff’s Deputies, Linn County Sheriff’s Rescue, Hiawatha Fire, Cedar Rapids Fire, Robins Fire, Monroe Fire, Palo Fire, Hiawatha Ambulance, and the Hiawatha Police Department.
