Not bad, Cedar Rapids!

The website WalletHub recently put together a list of '2020's Most Sinful Cities in America.' The article says that "in order to identify the darkest corners of America, WalletHub compared more than 180 U.S. cities across 37 key indicators of evil deeds." Those 37 key indicators include rates surrounding theft, violent crimes, excessive drinking, gambling addiction, exercise, tanning salons, Tinder users, and more. Each of those was then put into one of seven overall categories that are inspired by the seven deadly sins.

Out of 182 cities, Cedar Rapids was number 163, putting us in the top 20 LEAST sinful cities in the U.S. Yay! We ranked 143rd for 'Anger & Hatred,' 140th for 'Jealousy,' 127th for 'Excesses & Vices,' 160th for 'Greed,' 156th for 'Lust', 79th for 'Vanity,' and 162nd for 'Laziness.' The only other city in Iowa to make the list was Des Moines, which did slightly worse than us. Our capital placed 131st, which is still considered the "good" half of the list. Des Moines ranked 88th for 'Anger & Hatred,' 119th for 'Jealousy,' 73rd for 'Excesses & Vices,' 160th for 'Greed,' 113th for 'Lust', 112th for 'Vanity,' and 132nd for 'Laziness.'

Not surprisingly, Las Vegas was the number one most sinful city in America. They don't call it "Sin City" for nothing! The rest of the top ten include

  • Los Angeles, California
  • St. Louis, Missouri
  • Houston, Texas
  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Miami, Florida
  • Philidelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Denver, Colorado
