Let's face it; sometimes stress is unavoidable. We all get a bit stressed out at times, but apparently, some states have it worse than others.

WalletHub recently published a new study where they outlined the most and least stressed cities in America. They looked at 182 cities and compared them across "42 key metrics." Some of the data they looked at includes the percentage of adults in poor health, crime rates, average sleep per night, and divorce rates.

Only two cities in Iowa made the list, and both of them were on the good half! Cedar Rapids ranked really well, coming in at number 171 out of all 182 cities. If you break it down even further, we are 166th for "work stress," 168th for "financial stress," 171st for "family stress," and 106th for "health & safety stress." The other city to make the list was Des Moines, which ranked 160th overall. They were 158th for "work stress," 160th for "financial stress," 154th for "family stress," and 108th for "health & safety stress."

And here's even more good news! In the sub-category of "affordable housing," both cities made the top five for the entire country, Des Moines doing just a little better than Cedar Rapids.

It's nice to see that Cedar Rapids and Des Moines are some of the least-stressed cities in America, but WalletHub does note that not all stress is a bad thing! The study says:

"Certain kinds of stress can have positive effects on a person’s well-being, at least in the right doses. According to Psychology Today, 'A little bit of stress, known as ‘acute stress,’ can be exciting—it keeps us active and alert.' When stress reaches an unmanageable level, however, it turns 'chronic.' That’s when we become vulnerable to its damaging effects such as health problems and loss of productivity."
