Cedar Rapids city officials confirm that a woman has died following a fire on the city's southwest side.

KCRG reports that the Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to a call at 488 Drake Street SW at around 3:51 p.m. The address is part of the Kirkwood Estates manufactured home development. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke and flames on the roof of the home. Crews were able to contain the fire to the room where it started according to KCRG.

Officials say that 63-year-old Mary Jo Carlson was inside the room at the time of the fire. She was evacuated from the home but died at the scene from her injuries.

The home suffered significant damage from fire and smoke. Officials say they are still searching for a cause of the blaze. We'll have more information as it is released by Cedar Rapids fire officials.
