A mother and son are facing charges after their involvement in a brawl with police at the Wal-Mart Supercenter of the southwest side of Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the two are accused of biting and punching police officers on the scene.

According to police records and criminal complaints, 18-year-old Timothy Wayne Christmas and his mother, 37-year-old Kevett'a Jazonna McPhan were both arrested on Saturday afternoon. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the incident began at around 3:11 p.m. after police were notified about two people arguing and chasing each other in the store.

An officer was talking with one of the people involved in the parking lot outside the store, when the other, identified as Christmas, approached and tried to start a fight. The Gazette reports that the officer managed to keep the two separated and then called for backup. Christmas then proceeded to go back into the Wal-Mart store. Police followed him in moments later.

A Wal-Mart employee said that Christmas punched him in the face when he was told to leave the store. Police found Christmas inside the store and were arresting him when he assaulted officers, according to the Gazette. He shoved one, tried to head-butt another, and bit the left thumb of another. McPhan also got involved with police, punching another officer in the chest.

The Gazette reports that police officials have charged Christmas with assault on a police officer causing injury, two counts of assault of an officer, assault, and interference with official acts. McPhan faces charges of assault on a police officer and interference with official acts.
