[UPDATE, 9/5 8 a.m.: New information from National Weather Service predicts Cedar River to crest in Cedar Rapids at 16.2 feet on Sunday 9/9.]

[UPDATE: An alert from the City of Cedar Rapids has upgraded the Cedar River crest projection to 16.5 feet, "major flood stage" by Thursday night.]

A recent Facebook post from Cedar Rapids City Council member Susie Weinacht indicates the city has begun enacting "moderate flood stage" activities.

This week's heavy rain, which is expected to continue, has the National Weather Service predicting a Cedar River crest of 16.2 feet, "major flood stage", on Sunday. Road closures and other measures have begun with that in mind, including:

- A Street and 21 Ave SW

- Otis Road SW

- Ellis Road west of Edgewood Road

- Old River Rd SW

- Partial closure of 1st St NW between Penn and E Ave NW

Parks closures:

- Robins Lake Park

- The Ellis Harbor boat launch

- Jones Golf Course back nine holes are closed

- Manhattan Park Pavilion

- Recreational trail (Prairie Creek to 16th Avenue SW)

- Softball Hall of Fame at Ellis Park

Marion's Thomas Park and Boyson Trail have also been closed, and a post from the Hiawatha Parks & Recreation Department indicates the closure of Tucker Park there until further notice.
