I'm officially a green belt, baby!

I know it may not look like it (because carbs are my best friend), but I am very much into working out. I have memberships at three different gyms in the local area, which I go to 5 to 6 days a week. I do the basic cardio stuff, but I also practice yoga, Jiu Jitsu, and Roufusport Kickboxing. I am mainly dedicated to Jiu Jitsu, but I've been attending kickboxing classes one to two days a week for about a year and two months now. Well, last night I hit a big milestone in my kickboxing journey when I was awarded my very first belt promotion!

Since the new Hard Drive Performance Center opened last summer, they've made some changes to their programs, including awarding belts to kickboxing students. So no, it didn't actually take me over a year to get my first belt promotion, if that's what you're thinking! I really love the new program, though, especially because I get to train under black belt and UFC fighter Erik Koch. Learning from a pro is always a great experience, even when I'm so tired I think I might die.

I got into kickboxing and martial arts in late 2017 because I was so BORED with my daily workouts and I wanted to tone up while learning an actual skill. Plus, I had just finished watching Iron Fist on Netflix and I became obsessed with learning to fight. But, what people may not know is that I also started training because of my dad. He passed away when I was eight, but I found out later in life that he was a black belt and instructor in a martial art called Isshin-Ryū. I like to think that I have some of his martial arts genes in me and that he would be proud of me for the progress I've made.

I know a green belt doesn't sound super impressive, but I've worked really hard this past year and it's really nice to feel like I'm doing something right. If you're ever interested in trying something new but it seems really intimidating, don't be afraid to take a chance! Seriously, if I can do it, anybody can. You wouldn't want to miss out on something you could end up loving :)
