US Weekly is confirming that Cedar Rapids native and Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood is a new dad! Wood and his girlfriend Mette-Marie Kongsved quietly welcomed their first child together earlier this year.

Kongsved, a Danish producer, first stepped out with her baby bump in July of 2019. Wood announced in an interview with Seth Meyers that he had quit smoking after finding out that he was going to become a father. The two also sparked engagement rumors when Kongsved was seen wearing a ring on her left-hand last summer. But Wood referred to her as his girlfriend in recent interviews. The couple met while working on the 2017 film I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore.

Elijah Wood was born in Cedar Rapids on January 28th, 1981. His parents operated a delicatessen. He began modeling at the age of seven and appeared several plays in Cedar Rapids and Marion. He moved to Los Angeles in 1989 to pursue a career in acting. He made his film debut with a small part in Back to the Future Part 2. He went on to star as Frodo in the Lord of the Rings trilogy directed by Peter Jackson.
