The investigation continues into three fires on the Northeast side of Cedar Rapids within the past five days. All three of the fires were set intentionally, but are not believed to be connected, according to fire officials.

Assistant Cedar Rapids Fire Chief Greg Smith told KCRG that three arson cases within a week are an obvious cause for concern for the department. However, investigators have made progress in one of the cases. The first of the three fires happened at an apartment complex at 2131 Blairs Ferry Road NE. Officials say they now have suspects in that case. They are also looking to see if the fires are connected in any way. So far, they haven't uncovered evidence that ties them together.

After the apartment fire on August 15th, the second blaze was reported on August 17th at a home at 1639 Holywood Blvd. Two firefighters were injured battling that fire. The third fire happened at Duchess Cleaners on Center Point Road. Fire officials are urging the community to keep their eyes open for suspicious activity and if they see any, to call 9-1-1.
