What about the dogs?

There's no doubt as to the human and property tolls of the devastation caused by the recent tornadoes in Illinois, Kentucky, and other parts of the midwest and south, but what about the dogs?

Well, many of them are going to be OK thanks to the Dubuque Regional Humane Society (DRHS). A story from Iowa's News Now talks about how they are taking in ASPCA shelter dogs from their area so that the shelter can make room for displaced animals from tornado-ravaged regions.

As of yesterday, December 14, the DRHS had reportedly received ten dogs transported from an ASPCA vehicle. Upon their arrival, each animal will receive medical and behavioral care before being made available for adoption.

Director of Operations with DRHS, Briana Eickhoff said "The Dubuque Regional Humane Society is proud to be a partner shelter of the ASPCA, providing placement options for homeless animals rescued from cruelty, neglect, and disaster situations so they can move on to new, loving homes."

83 percent of current pet owners reported living in a community that faces natural disasters. The ASPCA deploys nationwide to assist in relocation, search-and-rescue, sheltering, and reunification efforts during disaster situations including wildfires, tornadoes, and floods.
