UPDATE: Former ‘Bachelor’ Chris Soules’ Sentencing Set For August

[UPDATE 5/28] Chris Soules' sentencing set for August 27, according to KCRG.

After over two years, former Bachelor Chris Soules was to learn his fate today regarding his involvement in an accident that claimed the life of an Iowa farmer. We all will have to continue to wait as Soules' sentencing has been delayed.

In April of 2017, Iowa-native Soules was drving his truck near Aurora, Iowa when he hit a tractor causing it to roll into a ditch. The driver of that tractor was 66-year-old Iowa farmer Kenneth Mosher. Soules did make the original 911 call and performed CPR on Mosher, but left the scene as first responders arrived. Mosher died as a result of his injuries. Five hours later Soules was found at his home and arrested.

According to KCRG, Soules "initially faced a felony charge of leaving the scene of a fatal crash, but he instead plead guilty in November to a lesser charge of leaving the scene of an injury accident." He faces up to two years in prison.

The sentencing judge stated that "Mosher's death will not be a factor in her sentence since Soules did not plead guilty to a crime related to his death. Therefore, she would not consider victim impact statements from Mosher's family that were included in a pre-sentence investigation." Because the judge wouldn't consider the victim's death as a factor, Soules' attorneys and even prosecutors asked to delay the sentencing to request a new pre-sentencing investigation that didn't include factors related to Mosher's death. The only reason the judge agreed to this was because both parties requested this.

The new sentencing date has not been set. We will continue to update the story as more information becomes available.
