Former Johnson County Sheriff Running for Iowa House

After announcing his retirement from the Johnson County Sheriff's Department last year, Lonny Pulkrabek is running for the Iowa House.

He announced he is putting his hat in the running for a spot held in District 73 by Republican representative Bobby Kaufmann. House District 73 includes the eastern part of Johnson and all of Cedar County.

Pulkrabek declined to seek another term for the sheriff's position he had held since 2005. His statement in a media release announcing his candidacy for the House seat said, in part:

After 35 years in law enforcement, I’ve learned how the policies made in Des Moines affect our local communities in Cedar and Johnson Counties. It’s time for new leadership in the Iowa House who will put the interests of everyday Iowans and our local communities ahead of the special interests and party leaders
