Eastern Iowa Man Turns $20 Into A Small Fortune

Someone in Black Hawk County is starting off 2024 a whole lot richer.

The past few months have been a great time for people like who like to play the Iowa Lottery. At the very end of 2023, two Iowa residents won pretty hefty prizes, according to reports. 

Valerie Musgrove of Bloomfield (southern Iowa) won $20,000 after playing the "$20,000 Crossword" scratch game.

Just a few days later, Jaime Hakes of Lake Mills won $250,000 by playing a $20 scratch ticket. He claimed this prize on December 22nd.

One man, a little closer to home ended up winning a life-changing amount of money this year with the Iowa Lottery.

Meet Francis

Francis Heim of Dunkerton transformed $20 into an amount with a whole lot more zeros. Heim took home the sixth top prize of $250,000 in the Iowa Lottery's "Lucky 7 Bonus" scratch game.

The winning ticket that this Black Hawk County resident won was purchased at the Kwik Star located at 813 S. Canfield Street in Dunkerton.

Heim claimed this huge prize on Thursday, January 4th at the lottery's Cedar Rapids office.

What Game Did He Play?

According to officials with the Iowa Lottery, Francis Heim played a game called Lucky 7 Bonus. This is a $20 scratch game through the Iowa Lottery that features 20 top prizes of $250,000.

There are also 76 prizes of $10,000 for this game with overall odds of 1 in 2.88.
