A man in Bridgeport, Connecticut was arrested after he robbed a USPS mail carrier at gunpoint, but not for any reason you could possibly think of.

Bridgeport Police Department said they arrested 56-year-old William Ortiz, of Central Avenue in connection to the robbery.

Officers say that on Monday, the carrier was completing her route from her truck when two men in hooded sweatshirts blocked the truck.

The older of the two men pulled out a black handgun, pointed it at the mail carrier and demanded she give them all of her rubber bands.

Afraid that the man would shoot her if she didn't comply, the mail carrier handed over a handful of rubber bands. The two men then turned and fled the scene.

Police said shortly after the men fled, officers arrived on the scene and began their search for the two suspects.

Both men were found, identified as William Ortiz and a juvenile, not far from the scene of the crime. When questioning Ortiz, officers noted that Ortiz had the rubber bands wrapped around his left wrist.

The search also turned up a small amount of Phencyclidine (PCP) in Ortiz's pocket.

Ortiz was charged with second-degree robbery, possession of a controlled substance, and risk of injury to a child.

William Ortiz is sitting in jail on $50,000 bond.
