Happy Covid-19 May Day 2020
If we've learned anything during the Covid-19 crisis, it's that people can still be nice to each other. I mean in our state, we're known for being "Iowa nice". It's brought out people's creative side. Celebrating birthdays with drive-by parades, adopting a high school senior, teddy bears and hearts in windows, and saluting essential workers in various ways.
Today, May 1st, is another opportunity to be nice to your neighbors and keep within the social distancing guidelines. It's "May Day", if you grew up in Iowa, you more than likely participate in this tradition. It's a special day where May baskets are made for your friends and neighbors. They're usually small baskets that can be filled with flowers or treats and left at someone's doorstep. The giver rings the bell and runs away. See, the perfect activity during this time of social distancing.
As you can see in the photo above, my family went the more practical route with red solo cups instead of baskets, but it works. And who says that the kids get to have all the fun. See the photo below of the special "May Day basket" that I will be delivering to some friends doorsteps later today. Hey, there's no rules saying what you can put in the basket. So, cheers! Have a happy May Day and here's to cautious optimism that this month will be much better than the last two.
