A decades old grocery store in Cedar Rapids will be closing its doors for good in early 2022.

The Hy-Vee store at 279 Collins Road NE in Cedar Rapids will be shutting down effective at 6 p.m. on January 9th, 2022. Hy-Vee aisle online orders will end on December 6th. That is according to a member of management with Hy-Vee and a press release that the company sent out earlier this afternoon.

The long-standing grocery store features a pharmacy, Chinese Express, bakery, and catering departments. The press release also detailed several other Hy-Vee locations that would be closing in the near future. Those stores include Englewood Road in Kansas City, Missouri, Kiwanis Ave. in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and the John Deere Road Hy-Vee in Moline Illinois. Several of the stores will be repurposed into different retail spaces.

In the press release, Hy-Vee states that all full and part-time employees at these stores, including Collins Road, will have the chance to transfer to comparable positions with other Hy-Vee stores. Hy-Vee says that signage will appear in the affected stores notifying customers of the upcoming closure. Pharmacy customers will get notification in the mail that their prescriptions will be transferred to another nearby Hy-Vee store location.
