Iowa Gets One Final Home Game…Against Michigan

While Iowa won't play in the Big Ten Championship game next Saturday, they will play in what the conference is calling Big Ten Champion's Week. And Iowa's matchup is none other than hated rival Michigan. The Wolverines are coming for a night game next Saturday in Iowa City. The Gazette reports that ESPN will carry the game starting at 6 p.m. next Saturday.

The two teams come into the game on different paths. Michigan has had a tough season with their record sitting at 2-4. Their last two games have been cancelled due to COVID-19 outbreaks. When they did play, Michigan struggled. They lost four of their last five games. It took three overtimes just to beat Rutgers. Head coach Jim Harbaugh is firmly on the hot seat in Ann Arbor.

Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes have put together an impressive season. They won their sixth straight game Saturday, as they beat Wisconsin 28-7. As impressive as that streak is, Iowa fans have to wonder what could have been. The Hawkeyes lost to Purdue to open the season by just four points. Then, they blew a 17-0 lead and lost against Northwestern 21-20. The Wildcats get to play in the Big Ten Championship game against Ohio State.

But its hard to not be impressed with this Iowa team. It isn't always pretty. They're winning with a young quarterback who drives fans crazy sometimes. But think about this. In 2020, a year when some teams barely played 6 games, much less won their last six. And when you look at Iowa's trophy room, it currently holds The Heartland Trophy, Floyd of Rosedale, The Heroes Trophy, and the Cy-Hawk Trophy. I'll take 2020.
