Iowa Has No Answers For Quickness Of DePaul
It was cold outside last night. It was also a bit chilly inside of Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. The Iowa men's basketball team got an early season wake up call as they got blasted by DePaul on Monday night 93-78.
DePaul got out to a 13-0 lead. Then it was 19-2. Yeah, this clearly wasn't going to be a Hawkeye kind of evening. Iowa trailed 53-30 at halftime. I kept thinking that Iowa's depth might wear DePaul down. They were playing their fourth game in a week. But it didn't show. They were clearly the more energetic team Monday night.
With all the departures from last year's team, Joe Wieskamp has to be Iowa's go-to scorer this year. He had just four points in 27 minutes. He was 1 of 7 from the field. Iowa's leading scorer was freshman C.J. Fredrick who scored 16. Fellow freshman Joe Toussaint had 13 points in the second half and was one of the few Hawkeyes to show any quickness on the court.
