Iowa Repairman Welcomed to Job Site By Large Snakes

When your job is to fix things, especially those that are outside, you never know what you're going to find. However, I expect the man sent to this repair job was more than a little surprised by this welcoming committee.

That Photo is the Stuff of Nightmares

Earlier this month, a man who works for Mort's Water Company in Latimer, near I-35 in north-central Iowa, was called to investigate a well that wasn't working properly. When the repairman arrived he pulled a pipe up out of the well. The photo above shows the pipe and some of the "8-9 bull snakes" that were wrapped around what's called the pump drop pipe. I would've quit on the spot, and still had nightmares for a month.

How Did They Get in the Well?

According to Mort's, "thorough the top of a poorly sealed well casing". I'm sure the homeowner will make sure that never happens again. It turned out the well's pump and motor needed to be repaired, with the issues not caused by the snakes.

Those Snakes Look Big! How Large Do They Get?

If you're familiar with bull snakes, you know they aren't the size of thin, little garter snakes. Nope, bull snakes can reach up to 8-foot in size and can weigh as much as 10 pounds. They can imitate rattlesnakes and you bet they'll try to strike their prey, or you, when they feel threatened. Thankfully, the repairman got the job done with no other excitement.
