Iowa Reports More Than 100 New Cases, Seven Deaths

Figures released by the Iowa Department of Public Health Wednesday morning show 3,748 total cases, 107 more than were reported on Tuesday.

Health officials also announced seven additional deaths, increasing the total number in Iowa to 90. Two of the deaths were reported in Black Hawk County, both adults over the age of 81. Muscatine County also reported two deaths, while Linn, Tama and Woodbury counties each had one.

The latest numbers show Black Hawk County with 379 cases of COVID-19, the fourth-highest total in the state. Linn County still has the most reported cases with 469, Polk County has 438, and Johnson County has 396.

During her daily press brief Wednesday, Gov. Kim Reynolds said 1,428 Iowans – or 38-percent of those who tested positive -- have recovered from the coronavirus. The governor announced an outbreak at St. Francis Manor in Poweshiek County, the 11th long-term care facility in Iowa where outbreaks have occurred.

Reynolds says 51-percent of Iowa’s 3,748 cases are linked to long-term care facilities.
