East. Iowa Volunteer Fire Department Selling Rides in 1930s Train

After a successful train ride fundraiser two years ago, they're doing it again... all aboard!

The Oxford Fire Department is bringing back a unique and awesome fundraiser to benefit their Johnson County volunteer fire department. You can ride in a 1930s train car, pulled behind an Iowa Interstate Railroad steam engine, later this summer.

In a media release, Oxford Fire Chief Jim Hennes said,

Our train ride fundraiser was well-received in 2019 and sold out well in advance of the event. It was so popular with our residents, visitors, and the volunteer steam engine crew that we wanted to bring it back for another go. Response has been enthusiastic so far; we anticipate this will sell out soon.

The event is Saturday, August 21, beginning at 9 a.m. The steam engine train will board near 213 S. Augusta Avenue in Oxford. It will travel east to Iowa City and then return to Oxford. The family-friendly trip will last approximately 45 minutes.

Rides will happen at 9 a.m. (sold out), 10:30 a.m. (sold out), noon (some adult tickets remain), 1:30 p.m. (sold out), and 3 p.m. (fully available) on August 21. Tickets are $20 for anyone 9 and above. Kids 3 to 8 are $10 and infants 2 and under are free. Infants must sit on your lap.

Please note, your time cannot be changed once a ticket is purchased. No refunds will be available. Parking is free, including handicapped parking.
