When the clock hit zero last night in Ames, Iowa State had just beat the number one team in college basketball. Cyclones 82, Oklahoma 77. A huge story in sports, right? Sorry Cyclone fans if it feels like this is old hat by now. It's already been done...twice this season!

The first to pull of the feat was UNI. The Panthers hosted North Carolina on November 21st of last year. The then #1 Tar Heels were without Marion native Marcus Paige who was out with an injury. UNI guard Wes Washpun was the star instead leading the Panthers with 21 points as the Panthers were the first to knock off a #1.

The next came in Iowa City on December 29th. It was the Big 10 opener for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa had lost 13 of the last 14 to Michigan State. The Spartans were without star Denzel Valentine, and Sparty never stood a chance. The Hawks shot 63% and Mike Gessel had a career high 25 in the Iowa win. Another #1 bites the dust.

Last night the Cyclones completed the three-peat! A pretty amazing feat for basketball in the state of Iowa. So, if you're #1 this year, you've been warned. You may enter the state on top, but you won't leave that way.
