An Eastern Iowa Great Dane Could Possibly Be the Tallest Dog Alive
An Iowa dog named Samsyhn is starting to get quite a bit of media attention. Why? Because he's HUGE! Just look at him!
About Samsyhn
According to an article from KCRG, Samsyhn was rescued by a Black Hawk County woman named Jayna Johnson when he was only four-months-old. As you can tell from the photos, Samsyhn is a Great Dane. In fact, he may be the greatest of Great Danes! Fast Tracks Canine Activity Center in Cedar Falls says Samsyhn’s unofficial height is 40 inches, or 3-feet 4-inches, which puts him in the running for the title of tallest living male dog. The current Guinness World Records title-holder is a Great Dane from Idaho named Reggie, who was measured at 3-feet 3-inches tall. But, Reggie's record hasn't been broken just yet. Fast Tracks wrote on their website:
"To be crystal clear, Samsyhn is not officially certified yet, and we are not claiming a record. But if we can get his height properly documented and it holds up under the same standards, Samsyhn would be in the conversation to become the tallest living dog (male) and bring that spotlight back to Iowa!"
Another thing that sets Samsyhn apart from most other dogs is the fact that he's deaf. But, he doesn't let that hold him back! KCRG reports that he knows sign language, and Fast Tracks says that he's "thriving." They wrote:
"Deaf dogs tend to be incredibly tuned-in. They watch faces. They watch hands. They watch patterns. They pay attention in a way a lot of hearing dogs don’t — because their world is built on visuals and trust."
America's Favorite Pet
Right now, there is a campaign to win Samsyhn the "America's Favorite Pet" competition for 2026. The winning animal will be featured on the cover of Modern Dog Magazine and take home a prize of $10,000! He's currently in first place for his group!
