It's only the start of fall, but that doesn't mean we can't talk about the holiday season!

In fact, Waterloo is holding a very festive contest that could get you in the holiday mood, and get your card shared city-wide!

Waterloo's Holiday Card Challenge

The City of Waterloo is inviting residents of all ages to spread holiday cheer through art in the 2025 Holiday Card Contest.

The contest gives community members the chance to design the official holiday card that will be sent out this season by Mayor Quentin Hart and city leaders.

What Happens to the Winning Waterloo's Holiday Card

The winning design will be printed and distributed to local organizations, community partners, and leaders.

The artist will be recognized on the city’s social media platforms and receive two copies of their card along with a certificate of recognition.

\The contest is open to all Waterloo residents, youth, and adults.

Entries should reflect themes of unity, pride, and the holiday spirit, celebrating the character of Waterloo through inclusive and creative designs.

This contest invites neighbors of every age to share the joy, creativity, and unity that define our city to help us send some warmth across the community this holiday season

Contest details - What to Know

If you'd like to enter, here are the details to know:

  • Deadline: October 27, 2025

  • Theme: Holiday spirit, community, and togetherness

  • Format: 5x7 card size; hand-drawn or digital art accepted (JPEG, PNG, or PDF; 300 dpi preferred)

  • Limit: One entry per person

Entries may be submitted by email to mayor@waterloo-ia.org or dropped off at the Mayor’s Office, 715 Mulberry Street.

Submissions will be judged on creativity, originality, visual appeal, quality, and overall impact.
