BYOF: bring your own food. Or better yet, go out for a HUGE pre-game brunch. If you don't, you may go a little hungry during this Friday's game at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames.

The Cyclones take on TCU in a barn-burner on Black Friday but the concession stand lines will be extra-long, thanks to the effects of staff shortages. A while back, we told you the University of Iowa Athletic Department was looking for volunteers for game day, and in Ames, they may not have gotten that staffing issue in line either.

Iowa State Athletic Director Jamie Pollard explained what is allowed in a statement published by KCCI and others:

The long Thanksgiving weekend has made it difficult for our concessions partner to find individuals and service groups to fully staff our game-day concessions operation, so we will allow fans to bring their own food into the game on Friday. While we will have limited concession offerings available for purchase, not all of our stands throughout the stadium will be open, and we believe that allowing fans the ability to bring food items into the stadium will take the pressure off those concession stands that we are able to staff.

Everything brought into the stadium must adhere the Jack Trice clear bag policy, which can be found here.

  • Plastic, vinyl, or PVC clear totes that do not exceed 12x6x12 inches and do not have a logo larger than 4.5×3.5 inches
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (i.e. Ziploc or similar);
  • Small clutch bags no larger than 4.5×6.5 inches;
  • Exceptions will be made for bags containing items required for medical, family, or child care.

Water bottles up to 20 oz. will be allowed and there will be filling stations for them in the stadium. Coolers will not be permitted.

The game kicks off at 3:30 on Black Friday, which means if we're lucky, it will start at or near, if not after the end of the annual Iowa-Nebraska rivalry game from Lincoln, which starts at 12:30 p.m. on the Big Ten network. According to ESPN, the Cyclone game will be shown on FS1. That the games don't completely overlap head-to-head is quite a holiday miracle in itself.
