Kernels To Host River Bandits Due To Mississippi River Flooding

The Cedar Rapids Kernels were supposed to hit the road and play the River Bandits in the Quad Cities next week. Mother Nature has other ideas. The continued flooding along the Mississippi River has forced the River Bandits to play the series in Cedar Rapids instead.

The River Bandits announced yesterday that they will play their April 15-17 series against the Kernels in Cedar Rapids. Modern Woodman Park is still surrounded by Mississippi River floodwaters. The inside of the park isn't the problem. It remains dry. But getting to the ballpark is another story.

Canadian Pacific trains continue to operate around the ballpark making nearly impossible to move fans, staff, and equipment safely with exposure to floodwaters. The River Bandits do have a bridge that fans can use to walk over floodwaters to get to the ballpark but until the railroad ceases operations it can't be used.

This is the second straight home series that the River Bandits have had to cancel because of the floodwaters. Another home series against Kane County is also at risk at the end of next week. No official announcement on where those games will be played has been made.
