[UPDATE 6/7 11 AM] Amara's trainer, Ron, tells me she has no major injuries and is recovering in his care. Around 200 people helped in the search for Amara yesterday. From the Ozbun/Lines family and All Event Security, where Amara works as a K-9 drug dog, they wish to pass on their thanks to everyone who helped, even if it was just sharing the story to make others aware of what was going on. Additionally, I ask that you continue to pray for Jesse and Hunter Ozbun and Shawnee Lines, who were all injured in Wednesday night's accident.

[UPDATE 6/6 10 PM] Amara has been found! She was located Thursday evening and her trainer, Ron, was able to get her near Airport National Golf Course on Wright Brothers Boulevard. She is alive and moving!

[UPDATE 6/6 7 PM] The search for Amara continues. Countless people helped in the search during the day Thursday and Ron Sims, the dog's trainer, and everyone involved in the search is grateful for all of the support. They're asking for more help during the day Friday. Anyone wishing to assist in the search should meet at the electric transformer near the corner of Ely Road and 7 Sisters Road. Anyone with a drone is asked to bring it along and all searchers should plan on bringing bug and tick repellant as much of the search area is in tall grass.

[ORIGINAL STORY] The Wednesday evening accident south of Ely that left three people injured also has another victim... a local K-9 drug dog. Amara, a Belgian Malinois, was in the Kia Soul with her handler and two others early last evening when they were struck head-on at the intersection of Ely Road and 7 Sisters Road. The driver of the Kia, 29-year-old Jesse Ozbun of Marion, suffered serious injuries. Jesse is Amara's handler. His four-year-old son Hunter Ozbun sustained serious injuries. 26-year-old Shawnee Lines of Marion suffered life-threatening injuries. Sims told me the family was headed to Lake MacBride to go fishing, something Amara loves.

Amara was last seen shortly after the crash by law enforcement authorities between the bike trail and Ely Road. She hasn't been spotted since early last evening and she is likely injured. It is believed she went through the front windshield. She is a K-9 drug dog for a private security company that works with local law enforcement agencies. Amara is smaller than a German Shepherd and is all light brown except for a black snout. Please see photos below.

The search for Amara went into early this morning and has been restarted in the area surrounding last night's crash. If you'd like to assist in the search, please go to the corner of Ely Road and 7 Sisters Road or call Ron at (319) 531-6201.
