Authorities in southeast Iowa say that a father has died after saving his five-year-old daughter from a dog attack.

Lee County Sheriff Stacy Webber says that 33-year old Robert Quick of Dallas City, Illinois was one of three people attacked by a dog outside of a residence in Fort Madison, Iowa last Friday. Webber says that officers had to shoot and kill the dog who would not release a man who was pinned on his back in the front yard of the home.

First responders soon found Quick lying seriously wounded in the home's doorway. He refused medical attention and instead insisted they attend to his daughter first. She had suffered bite injuries to her face. Sheriff Webber says that there is no doubt Quick's actions saved the life of his daughter.

All three victims were taken to a Fort Madison hospital where Quick was pronounced dead. The identities of the other victims involved have not been released at this time.
