Law enforcement officials have released more details in the shooting death of a man who was allegedly involved in a series of break-ins in Palo early Monday morning. This is according to KCRG.

KCRG reports that 40 year old Kevin Kawanzel Harris of Cedar Rapids was shot and killed by a homeowner in the 2700 block of Ridgeview Drive in Palo. According to the Linn County Sheriff's Office, a man at the residence shot Harris once in the chest after he allegedly broke inside the home and then made threats against the people living there. First responders arrived at the scene shortly after 3 a.m. and tried to treat Harris. He was pronounced dead at 3:16 a.m.

KCRG reports that Harris had broken a window in a child's room at the home, and later used a flower pot to smash a window in the front door. A man inside the home then got his 9 mm pistol and approached Harris. After Harris made threatening comments, the man said he feared for his safety and shot Harris.

Prior to that incident, KCRG reports that Harris was involved in other incidents in the Palo area. At around 2:55 a.m. a car driven by Harris hit a truck near the intersection of Ridgeview Drive and Timber Road. Officials also say that Harris appeared on security video at homes on Timber Road and Sage Drive 10 minutes before hitting the truck. He broke a window at a home on Sage Drive, but was scared off by the homeowner.

The entire incident remains under investigation.
