Maquoketa Now Has Its Very Own Brewery
Maquoketa’s Main Street has a brand new addition! According to a new article from KCRG, a local couple has opened the first brewery in the city in over one hundred years!
Earlier this month, Mark and Judy Lyon officially opened Maquoketa Brewing, which their Facebook page says is "Maquoketa's first brewery since Prohibition." Mark told KCRG that he had been interested in home brewing for about ten years before deciding to open a business. Now, after two years of work, the doors are open!
Maquoketa Brewing is located at 110 S Main St in a very old building. According to their website:
"We are the first brewery since the proud local brewing tradition was wiped out by prohibition. Our totally restored historic building is over 100 years old and contains our production brewery along with our family-friendly taproom."
The new brewery offers plenty of locally brewed beer, but they also have a couple of Iowa ciders on tap, too. You can check out their updated tap list HERE.
Opening a business during a pandemic is not an easy feat, so Maquoketa Brewing does have some guidelines in place to keep customers safe. First of all, masks are required when you're not eating or drinking at your table, and all ordering and serving will be done at the bar. If all the tables are full, they will take down your number and call you when one becomes available.
Maquoketa Brewing is open Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. For more updates, you can follow them on Facebook HERE.
