Marion Uptown Getdown Returns in August
Live music is on its way back, Iowans are receiving their vaccines and the Marion Chamber of Commerce has announced it will once again host the annual "Uptown Getdown" series. The event takes place Thursdays in August at Lowe Park this year, after being moved from its original location in City Square Park last summer.
Their plan was to "hit the road" and hold Uptown Getdown in multiple parks across Marion last summer to encourage social distancing due to the pandemic. With one event under their belt, organizers were forced to call off the rest of the scheduled lineup due to derecho damage. If it wasn't one thing, it was another, and that statement was seen quite literally in 2020.
First, we know you're wondering how they plan to keep everyone safe in one place. A post from their Facebook page reads:
Safety of attendees, volunteers, and the participating bands remains a top priority. We have moved this event to Lowe Park to allow additional space. Please watch for additional information regarding any public health protocols that may be in place at the time of this event.
Here is the exciting lineup of bands.
- August 5: Casting Call
- August 12: Katie & The Honky-Tonks
- August 19: Birdchild
- August 26: Boot Jack Band
All shows take place from 6-9 p.m. and admission is free thanks to a group of important community sponsors including Farmers State Bank, ImOn Communications, and Summit Pointe Senior Living Community.
