Mayor Hart Named Mayor of the Year
Congratulations are in order for Waterloo's own Mayor Quentin Hart!
Hart is currently serving his fifth term as the city's mayor, and a group of his fellow mayors have recognized him with an award earlier this week.
Mayor Hart received a prestigious recognition from the Iowa Mayor’s Association.
Mayor Hart Is Named Mayor of the Year
During the Iowa of League of Cities Annual Conference & Exhibit in Sioux City, the mayor of Waterloo was presented with the Mayor of the Year Award according to a press release.
“I am very humbled and honored that a group of my peers from across the state of Iowa who work tirelessly for cities every day selected me for such an honor," Hart said.
There are three "Mayor of the Year" recognitions given out at this event. These are all based off of population categories such as: the under 2,000, 2,000-10,000, and over 10,000.
"As Mayor of the Year, I’m very thankful to my staff, my entire team, and to my family for making this recognition possible. Now I must get back to work, roll up my sleeves, and continue to advocate for our community. So much more can be accomplished when we work together,” explained the Waterloo official.
This Mayor of the Year Award was created with the goal of recognizing mayors "who have provided extraordinary public service to their community, the League, Iowa Mayor’s Association and local government."
Hart is the city of Waterloo's first African American mayor. The Iowa Mayor's Association cited Hart's work building a "sustainable city" which allowed the city to be one of the top accepted candidates for a highly competitive Smart City Acceleration program.
