Measurable Snow Arrives in Eastern Iowa This Week

Ready or not, here it comes.

Our weather partners with the KCRG TV-9 First Alert Storm Team are calling it the "first measurable snow event" of the season in our area. After a clear and dry Monday, prepare for a long-duration accumulating snow event beginning Monday night.

With highs in the upper 30s on Monday, things look quiet to start off the workweek with only a chance of light snow in the far northwest portions of Eastern Iowa. By Monday evening, things begin to look dicier. Between Monday night and Thursday, expect accumulations of 1-3 inches, but as long as temperatures remain above freezing, the good news is, impacts on the roads should be minimal and accumulation will potentially be limited to grassy areas.

However, as we're always told and will reiterate here, any amount of snow can be problematic with the first round of the season, and you should use caution.

A few snow showers are set to continue into Thursday morning, and we're looking at the possibility of the season's first below-zero wind chills by Friday morning. After that, things look dry as temperatures rebound to near 40 by early next week.

KCRG also reports that the Waterloo Regional airport recorded an inch of snow on Saturday, its first measurable amount of the season, and in doing so beat the average first date for it by nearly two weeks.
