The jingle and slogan are so familiar: "I don't want to grow up, I'm a Toys 'R Us kid".

We've been talking about it for a long time. Toys 'R Us filed for bankruptcy last fall, followed by a list announcements of store closures that got progressively longer. Eventually, the chain announced its intent to close all remaining locations, including one at 2425 Wiley  Blvd SW  in Cedar Rapids. The liquidation will be wrapping up across the board as of this Friday, June 29.

After announcing it was going out of business and failing to find a new buyer after falling into bankruptcy, Toys 'R Us and its shoppers have been sadly and slowly awaiting this moment.

I think in some ways we all grew up as Toys 'R Us kids, and knowing this was coming for a while hasn't softened the blow.

Toys 'R Us and its subsidiaries will be no more after this week.

A $3.1 billion loan shortly after the bankruptcy announcement hasn't been able to turn the company's fortunes around, so visit Toys 'R Us for that one final purchase, or just for a nostalgia trip, "while supplies last", or before this Friday, whichever comes first.
