New Cedar Rapids Flood Wall Approved
The city council has approved plans for a new, $17 million flood wall, to be built between the Cedar River to Quaker Oats.
You might remember that in 2010, Quaker built its own 100-year flood wall but the city wanted to not only maintain its relationship with one of its major employers by increasing protection around it, but also get the ball rolling on permanent flood protection around downtown.
Protection for the nearby railway will be added at an extra cost of $3 million.
When speaking to CBS2, City Flood Protection Control Manager Robert Davis said,
This is the first step toward permanent above ground flood protection in the downtown area
The work is scheduled to be completed in 2021.
