We all have stress in our lives. We all have bills to pay, loved ones to worry about, and other shared responsibilities that can cause even the most well adjusted person some anxiety. But a new study found that for the most part, Iowans are the least stressed group of people in the United States.

The study conducted by OnePoll, surveyed nearly 13,000 people nationwide, split evenly by state. The survey asked Americans what they are stressed about and how much do they worry about certain issues every day. 72% of Americans revealed that 2020 was the most stressful year they've ever lived through! I think I can second that! 57% of people say that they are more stressed now than ever before. The good news is that the study also found that 48% of us have found ways to deal with the stress in our lives.

So what are we stressed about? Here are the top five things we worry about.

  1. Finances
  2. COVID-19
  3. Politics and current news
  4. Job
  5. social or personal life

Those are all very valid things to worry about, by the way. COVID-19 has touched a lot categories in our everyday lives and made 2020 a year unlike any other. Add the affects of the August derecho and folks in Eastern Iowa had quite a year. But despite all that, Iowa scored the best in the nation for our overall stress level. Nebraska came in #2 followed by South Dakota and Minnesota. Yet another study that shows the Midwest isn't all bad.

The most stressed state? That unfortunate honor went to our neighbors to the south, Missouri, followed by Mississippi, and West Virginia.
