Popular Burger Chain Opening Iowa Location After Closures
Just when we thought this chain was headed toward permanent closures, a new location is opening Monday.
We reported in May of 2020 that the popular burger chain Steak 'n Shake announced they would be permanently closing over 50 locations. Things weren't going well before the pandemic and they didn't seem to be any better during. The fate of the Coralville location was in question, and with the Cedar Rapids store already being closed, that meant only one store was left in eastern Iowa.
The Coralville Steak 'n Shake located off of Commerce Drive held on through the pandemic, and now Iowa is getting another restaurant. According to the Des Moines Register, the burger restaurant will open its new location at 815 S. 51st St. in West Des Moines. The restaurant is even doing something fun to celebrate their grand opening on Monday, January 11. The store's first customer will receive one free meal a week for an entire year. Yum! And the first 50 customers will get coupons that they can redeem for a free double cheeseburger and fries.
The store will operate a little differently than normal too, as they won't be doing table service. Instead, customers will order at a front counter. (In my opinion, this is going to be way better than their table service). The location will also offer "drive-through, carhop curbside and delivery options." The Des Moines Register reports that "the restaurant will be smaller and have a more limited menu." If you're in the area and decide to stop in, share your experience with us.
