It's Ragbrai week here in the great state of Iowa! It's a tradition that's been happening since 1974 and people absolutely love it. I just don't know how they do it?

First of all, it's almost 500 miles on a bicycle! I get tired going that far in my automobile. Not to mention, it's always hot and humid the week of Ragbrai, making it even more difficult to bike across the state.

On top of all that exercise, most people that ride Ragbrai like to party. Every stop on the ride features booze, music, food and more booze. It's the biggest bash of the year and hangovers typically start each and every day.

It takes a special person to be a part of Ragbrai. You have to wake up every morning and get back on the horse...Except this horse requires you to peddle. The average per day riding is about 63 miles. Try doing that after a 12 pack of Coors Light and 7 shots of Fireball the night before.

Ragbrai 2017 started in Orange City this year and will conclude in Spencer when cyclists dip their bikes in the Mississippi River on July 29th.

I've always wanted to try it once, just to see if I can make it all week. I'm not sure my 41 year-old body could handle the ups and downs of this crazy week called Ragbrai.

Maybe next year.....I'll start training today.
