Thousands of individuals descending on Iowa's towns in a single week is not considered a prudent measure toward social distancing procedures to slow the spread of Coronavirus at this time or for the foreseeable future. As such, and with so many unknowns, RAGBRAI leaders have decided their event is called off this year.

The Des Moines Register reports the decision was made after careful consideration and constant communication with key ride leaders and the host cities. In short, the planned route and all activities associated with RAGBRAI 2020 will now effectively become the map for next year's RAGBRAI, held the week of July 25-31, 2021. Waterloo and Anamosa will be overnight stops along the way.

"The safety of our riders has always been the most important focus for our RAGBRAI team, and we feel the decision to postpone to 2021 is the right one"said RAGBRAI director Dieter Drake.

Those who signed up for this year's ride can transfer all payments and registration to next year. Those unsure of whether they can make plans to participate next year can request refunds or donate their payment to the Iowa Bicycle Coalition. Fill out a request form to make those changes here.
